Legendary World Traveler Bill Altaffer Leads 2014 Baltics & Finland Tour

At last look, California’s Bill Altaffer is #5 on the Most Traveled People web site. (In 2005, he was named #1.) Bill has organized and led, through MIR, countless special tours, from the backwaters of China, Turkey, and Russia to the sky-high Pamir Highway in Tajikistan.

Capturing the Spirit of TravelThis year, Bill is leading a 20-day tour organized through MIR of Finland, Estonia, Latvia & Lithuania from August 22-September 10, 2014. As owner of Expedition Photo Travel, this septuagenarian ski instructor is a black-diamond expert at finding and capturing magical travel moments and unforgettable destinations, including more than 111 of the nearly 1,000 UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Highlights of this year’s 2014 Finland/Baltics tour include six UNESCO sites, such as the Old Town capitals of Tallinn, Estonia; Riga, Latvia; and Vilnius, Lithuania; as well as the natural beauty of the Curonian Spit. Windmills, the “Hill of Witches,” the “Hill of Crosses,” and the Amber Museum are featured photo ops as well.

Traveling the WorldJust as there are “extreme athletes,” so there are “extreme travelers,” and Bill easily fits into this elite category. According to the Most Traveled People web site, there are 874 “countries, territories, autonomous regions, enclaves, island groups, and major states and provinces.” Bill has made it to more than 111 of them, and counting.
