Siberia (with MIR) a 2016 Financial Times Favorite

“From art in São Paulo to hiking on the shores of Lake Baikal, FT travel writers share their finds…”

In December 2016’s Financial Times Travel Section, an article called “” asked 11 of its travel writers to reveal their best discoveries of the year.

Award-winning journalist Sophy Roberts’ contribution was Siberia’s Lake Baikal.

After visiting Siberia in winter with MIR, and traversing a frozen Lake Baikal by dogsled, snowmobile and hovercraft, Roberts brought her family back during the more benign summertime to explore the UNESCO-listed lake in its liquid state.

They hopped the Trans-Siberian to Irkutsk, and set out to hike a section of the Great Baikal Trail. Then they boated over to sacred Olkhon Island, hearing the chanting of a shaman ceremony carried to them on the breeze.

MIR took care of the details.
